Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has demonstrated a firm commitment to supporting the media sector by launching a pivotal training workshop in Kismayo. The intensive program is specifically designed to address the pressing needs of local journalists: enhancing their professional skills and, most importantly, bolstering their personal safety.
Focus on (Safety)
Recognizing the challenging environment in which media professionals operate, a primary focus of the training is journalists’ safety. The sessions will equip attendees with essential knowledge and strategies to recognize, assess, and mitigate the dangers they often encounter while reporting on duty. This proactive approach aims to ensure journalists can perform their critical functions with greater confidence and security.A Cross-Section of the Media
The training has gathered 30 participating journalists from Kismayo, representing a crucial blend of the region’s media landscape. This includes both those from independent, private media houses and those working with the official Jubbaland government media. The opening ceremony of the workshop was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism – Jubbaland, Mr. Abdifatah Mohamed Mukhtar. He was accompanied by several members of the Jubbaland State Government councils, highlighting the administration’s high regard for the media’s role in governance and public transparency. The initiative marks a significant step forward in professionalizing the media sector in Jubbaland, paving the way for more skilled, informed, and safer reporting across the state.
